Clean Sweep!

Yesterday there was more progress on the basement....

We had our furnace and ductwork cleaned, to get rid of all the construction dust. The housecleaning crew also showed up, and cleaned the Contractor Bathroom (we had a choice: let the trades use our half bath, or pay for a Port-A-Potty to be placed on our front lawn. Um, gross. So I surrendered a bathroom to "The Cause").

The carpet guy showed up to check out the weird line on our landing. He thinks it's a crease from where the carpet was rolled up in the back of the truck, so they're bringing a steamer out on Friday, to try and steam the line out. If, after a month of relaxing and a resteaming, the line is still there, that run of carpet will be replaced. I am SO GLAD it's not a seam, and I'm even more glad to hear that the supplier (After 8 Interiors) is willing to stand behind their products and installer. That's customer service!

As well, the tile sealer showed up. We have natural slate floors, which are porous. As well, the grout between your tiles is porous, and can become stained or even mildewed (ew!) with exposure to water and other materials. So, we're getting all the tile and grout sealed, to prevent any kind of damage or staining in the future. As a side benefit, it will make the colors in our slate flooring more vibrant (and we have some lovely colors- everything from emerald greens to firey reds and deep purples. Gorgeous!)

And, finally, the finishing carpenter installed the last of our laminate backsplash in the laundry room. I know that the tile we had in there originally was an upgrade, as far as material quality (and cost!) were concerned, but I REALLY did not like the tile. I am IN LOVE with the way it looks now. Seriously, I think it looks so much better, even though it's a lower-end product....I think it makes the room look more cohesive. So glad I had them change it!

The filing cabinet drawer is not a permanent fixture..it was just there to hold the backsplash in place while the glue dried!
I am so happy with the laundry room now....it's just how I pictured it!

On a not so happy note, the Pup broke a tooth last night. She was in her kennel, chewing on the metal grate of the door (she LOVES to chew on metal...we think it's because it's cold, and she's teething). She opened her mouth as wide as she could to bite the door, but then couldn't open her mouth any wider to UNbite the door, so she was stuck, and she started to freak out and scream, and before Mr. Homeowner or I could get over to help, she jerked her head back and was free...but was also missing half of one of her canines. We could see pulp, and it was bleeding, so we called the vet ER (again!), and they said to wait until our normal vet was open, unless she started showing signs of extreme distress. Since she was eating, drinking and playing normally (and tolerated us wiping her tooth down), we decided to leave it until today. When she went into our normal vet (who weighed her...and by the way, she's DOUBLED her weight since we got her 3 weeks ago!) he said there's really nothing we can do except watch it. It's not broken down to the gumline, and she's eating, drinking and playing normally, so she's probably not in any pain. We just have to keep an eye on her- if the area around the broken tooth starts to get red and puffy, or if she stops using that side of her mouth, we should bring her back in- if there's an infection, it can kill the adult tooth waiting to move in behind the baby tooth. As well, the end of the tooth is a little sharp, so if she starts to slice up her bottom lip or gum, we have to bring her back in to get the end ground down (which will require her to be under anaesthetic..so we're hoping that if this needs to be done, it can wait until she gets spayed, when she'll be under anyway). But, other than that, there's not much we can do....and it IS a baby tooth, thankfully, so she'll only have to live with it for about 4 more months. As an upside, the scare from being stuck to her kennel door made our normally independent pup a little cuddler last night...at one point she was lying across both our sets of legs, gently licking my fingers and letting us pet her. It was a nice silver lining to an otherwise bad experience!
