The Tailbone's Connected to the....Pelvic Bone...

And, on Sunday, MY tailbone connected with the Stair-bone. That's right, I fell down the stairs. While holding the pup.

Now, it's not as dramatic as I just made it sound. It was early (like, 6 am early). We could hear the Pup moving in her crate and scraping around, a sure sign she needs to go out (and it had been 5 hours since we took her out for her middle of the night break, so it was time). Mr. Homeowner got up, but wasn't going to take her out right away, and I was worried that there was going to be an accident in the meantime (Oh, if only I knew how right I was- but Pup didn't have the accident!), so I grabbed pup and headed downstairs. Our stairs have a turn box in them- instead of going down, hitting a square landing, and heading down more stairs at 90 degrees to the original set, our stairs become triangular, and turn the corner that way. Which means that, the closer you walk to the wall, the wider the stair treads are as the turn is made, and the closer to the banister you walk, the smaller the stair treads are. And, we had left the vacuum hose piled up, on the stairs, against the wall.

Long story short, I avoided the vacuum hose by walking on the banister side of the stair, my foot slipped off the edge of the (carpeted and shortened) stair tread, and down I went, sliding on my tailbone.

I am thankful for three things: A) that I fell BACKWARDS, instead of forwards. Had I pitched forward, I would have fallen onto hardwood, and I probably would have used my face to break my fall, since I was holding Pup with both hands. Or, I would have had to drop her to get my hands up. Neither are appealing options. B) I'm thankful that I managed to hold onto Pup, and tuck her into my chest, so she didn't hit her head on the banister on the way down, and I didn't land on her. So, she came out unscathed. And C) I'm thankful that our stairs are carpeted. Bouncing down hardwood or tile would have been exponentially more painful, and may have even caused a break or fracture. And, Hidden Bonus Thankfulness D) I'm thankful that I have a fabulous partner in Mr. Homeowner, who came RUNNING (like, sprinting, literally) when he heard the thumps and me howling on the stairs. He was ready to take the Pup out to the backyard clad only in his undies and a jacket, in case I couldn't get up and get around. Such a fabulous guy- I'm so lucky!

I'm mostly okay- my tailbone is still VERY, VERY sore, but there's no bruise (yet), and my hips are really sore, I can't even lift my leg onto the edge of the bed to moisturize. But I'm sure I'll heal up well, in a few more days.

So, on to other news....

On Friday, the painter showed up again to do touchups...and promptly had a tantrum, as he claimed the finishing carpenter had used unfinished trim (as in, primed, but not painted). Now, I'm not so sure about this...the trim was dropped off en masse, before the painters came. I distinctly remember coming home to crazy lacquer fumes on the day the painters sprayed the trim pieces. And, to my knowledge, no new trim was brought in, at any point. So, all the trim SHOULD be painted. If I was a betting kind of gal, I would hazard a guess that all the trim wasn't painted in the first place- the painters did, after all, leave an entire wall to be second coated as a "touch up", and they were complaining about the smell from the lacquer when they were painting the trim. But, we will check with the Project Manager, just to make sure no extra material was brought in.

As well, the security and sound guy came back to finish our security system; the vent covers and cold air return covers were delivered; and a sales rep came out to look at the weird line in our carpet...he determined that it was just a kink in the roll from when the carpet was transported to us in the back of the truck, and it should relax out as it lays longer. Same goes for the bumps in the bedroom carpet. If, for whatever reason, they DON'T relax out, we can call them back and they'll replace it.

On Saturday, I flew to Edmonton for the day- I had a memorial service to attend, but Mr. Homeowner had Hockey on Saturday night, and someone had to be home in the evening to watch Pup. So, I flew up and flew back- it's only a 30 minute flight, so it's not bad. While I was up there, my mom and I also managed to meet with the florist, and get some mock-ups done and a quote.

And, on Sunday I fell down the stairs, did a grocery list, went shopping, came home, showed one of Mr. Homeowner's hockey buddies and his wife around the basement (they're looking for a contractor to do their basement reno), started cooking, and then hosted Mr. Homeowner's friend Kevin and our friends Peter and Anne. It was nice to introduce them to the Pup, and it was great to catch up and find out how everyone's Christmases went!

And, now it's Monday again. The list of things I didn't get done this weekend is so long, I won't even bother to copy it here, but I'm hopeful that things may be better next weekend. And, our basement is slated to be finished THIS WEDNESDAY (!!!!!), so that's exciting....but, we'll see. This is the third completion deadline we've been given, so I'm reserving my greatest excitement for the morning after the final cleanup is done and everyone leaves for good!

And, if there are any design mavens out there (and I KNOW there are!), check out my post from Friday- Should we go dark with the backsplash, against that granite (it's Baltic Brown, if anyone wants to find another photo of it), or leave the light tile up- the lighter tile does match the lighter components in our granite, and it is similar in color to the walls....but what do you all think? We would choose the exact same backsplash tile, just in a charcoal grey instead of the tan.

Oh, and as a side note, remember when we were concerned because the Pup wasn't eating? Um, yeah. I was getting worried because it looked like she was losing some of her puppy fat. Well, as it turns out, she's just growing- her legs are getting longer, her paws are getting bigger, and he halter has had to be loosened already. We weighed her yesterday, and she's EIGHTEEN POUNDS (up from 10 pounds, when we got her at 7 weeks). So, I guess we can stop worrying about her not eating! And, Mr. Homeowner took her to her first Puppy School class on Saturday, and he said she was the superstar of the class. They are big proponents of Clicker Training (where you give a command, click the clicker, and give a treat, then as the dog learns, keep clicking and withold the treat, until the click IS the reward), so we'll have to get used to wearing the clickers all the time!
